Jeep, the American-based automobile division of Fiat Chrysler group is well famous across the globe for producing tough Sports Utility Vehicles. And now Jeep is gearing up to introduce its newest compact crossover to the world, earlier named as the ‘Jeep 551’ and commonly referred as the ‘Jeep C-SUV’.
Spied testing several times before, and now again, the fresh spy shots are clicked by CarNewsChina while testing on the Chinese roads. These fresh images disclose the exteriors of the SUV as well as give a sneak peek of the dashboard.
As the company is going to end the production of the first generation of Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot by the end of this year, the new compact crossover, Jeep 551 is considered as the common replacement of them. Based on the same small-wide front-wheel drive platform that underpins the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, the Jeep 551 will be slotted above the company’s smallest offering, the Renegade (Globally named as B-SUV).

No confirmation about the powertrain, but this new SUV is expected to offer with two engine options: 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol and 2.0-litre Multijet ll diesel. The former is mated to a 6-Speed manual transmission and tuned to deliver a maximum power output of 164 hp, While the later is paired with a 9-Speed automatic transmission and produce a maximum power output of 170 hp.
The production of the upcoming compact crossover, Jeep C-SUV will start in September at FCA’s (Fiat Chrysler Automobile) new Pernambuco assembly plant in Brazil and will make its global premiere at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in November this year. And in the same month it will also be introduced in the US market, while in Mexico, it will go into production on January 30, 2017.
In India, the Jeep 551 will be produced at Tata-Fiat JV plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra by later next year.
