Ssangyong Tivoli Caught Testing Again: Expected launch, Price and Specs

This is not the first time when someone has teased the upcoming compact SUV in the country from Mahindra Ssangyong, the Tivoli. Before showcased at Auto Expo in February this year, the Tivoli was spotted testing for the very first time in December last year. And now again, the very carefully camouflaged test mule has been spied during the public road test in Chennai. The repeated road test of Tivoli indicates that Mahindra is gearing up to launch this compact SUV as soon as possible.

The Korean-based automobile manufacturer, Ssangyong was introduced in the Indian market by Mahindra and Mahindra a few years ago and till now we saw the only one product of the brand, the premium SUV Rexton.

Launched in several global markets, the Tivoli is offered with 1.6-litre 4-cylinder either petrol or diesel engine. The petrol unit delivers a maximum power output of 126 bhp at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 160 Nm, while the diesel unit churns out the maximum power of 113 bhp at 3400-4000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1500-2500 rpm. Both the powertrains are mated to a 6-speed manual or Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission.

Talking about the India-spec variant, no officials yet, though it is likely to come with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder mHawk80 diesel engine under its hood. This is the same engine that powers the current generation Mahindra TUV 300.

Coming to its features, the Tivoli includes LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats and Ventilated driver seat. It also gets some technology-wise comfort features such as a fully automatic dual air conditioning system with a memory function that remembers to adjust the system as per the preferred air volume, direction and temperature in three modes.

On the safety side, the Tivoli gets airbags (including driver knee, curtain and side airbags), a tyre pressure monitoring system, a multi-function ESP and all four wheel disc brake.

No official confirmation has been made by the brand about its India launch. However, the Tivoli is already on sale in several other global markets and likely to be launched in the country by the end of this year. The price of this compact SUV is yet to be revealed by the brand, though once launched it will rival Hyundai Creta, Nissan Terrano and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
