Valentino Rossi, after getting a thrilling face off with the rival Marc Marquez has managed to register his 114th victory of his career and second win of this year. The two others Honda riders Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa finished in second and third position respectively at the Catalunya GP.
In the beginning, reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez was leading the race and Rossi was holding the eighth position on the starting grid. Dani Pedrosa, since from the beginning of the race managed to hold the same third place until the race ended. Besides getting a great start, the day turned out to be a disaster for the Lorenzo as he met with an unpredicted crash and the run for the podium ended.
The fight between the top two position holders, Honda’s Marc Marquez, and Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi was a close one, an issue in the Honda’s cycle part left him behind for the remainder of the race and ‘The Doctor’ hit the spot. The third place gainer, Dani Pedrosa also got a brief threat from the one and only Maverick Vinales (Suzuki Ecstar) but he could not match the Honda’s rider experience and lost the third place with a big margin of 18 seconds run.
All the podium finishers were wearing t-shirts quoted 'Always in our hearts' in order to pay tribute to the Moto2 rider Luis Salom, 24-year old rider, who lost his life in a free practice session on Friday. There was no champagne ceremony happened in the event. However, the Catalunya GP event was also going to be canceled but after getting approval from the Salom’s family the event continued.
