2016 Motor Vehicle Bill: Driving Licences Might Get Costlier

A while back, the Union cabinet has taken a substantial action to change the pathetic Indian roads safety standards and approved an amended Motor Vehicle Bill 2016.The bill contains more strict rules and regulation than the prevailing laws, norms and fines. Once passed in parliament, it will be implied across the country.

Under this projected MVB 2016, the cost for issue and renewal of all type driving licence will be increased upto Rs 1,200 from the current fee of Rs 320. A smart-card licence issuance will now cost just double, Rs 400 from present costing of Rs 200. More, a learner’s driving licence which currently costing Rs 30 for each class of vehicle will cost Rs 150 later.

the renewal fee for both smart card and non-smart card driving licences of all types vehicles, will get a plunge from Rs 50 to Rs 200. An international driving permit will be issued at Rs 1000, for which one pays only Rs 500. In case, if someone wants to have changes in any particulars of the driving licence as residential address then he would have to pay the government proposed fee of Rs 200.

As the government proposed, the driving lessons fee will also marked a four-times hike in licence issue and renewal for the driving schools from Rs 2500 to Rs 10,000.

Also, the one-time fee of Rs 50 for conducting a driving test for driving licence will be six fold and figured Rs 300 for each class of licence applied for particular two wheeler or four wheeler. Consequently, the combined test will be priced about Rs 600 for the applicant.
