A new front crash prevention system has also been added as an optional equipment for the proper functioning of latch anchors at the time of mishappening. This new system also performed well in contrast to the foregoing model.

"The earlier model's structure did not fare well in the test, with maximum intrusion into the occupant space of 9 inches," IIHS said in a statement. "In contrast, maximum intrusion in the new Elantra was only 2 inches."
