Things have finally been cooked up for the second generation Panamera sedan’s lineup. Hinted for the first time with a teaser image back in June this year, the 2017 Porsche Panamera sedan gets six new models in its range. Being offered with both rear-wheel drive entry level Panamera and four-wheel drive Panamera 4, the lineup will make its public debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show, scheduled for next week, while deliveries in the UK market will commence by early 2017.
Out of six, four models namely, Panamera 4 Executive, Panamera 4S Executive, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Executive and Panamera Turbo Executive are standing at a longer wheelbase architecture and come equipped with four wheel drive configuration as well. A new engine option of a 2.9L turbocharged V6 unit has also been added to the family, but available only for entry-level Panamera and Panamera 4.
The standard wheelbase based real wheel drive Panamera and FWD Panamera 4 units house the company’s newly introduced V6 powered twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre engine inspired by Audi S4, S5 Coupe and S5 Sportback. Claimed to be a more efficient motor, it is tuned to make out an increased power of 350-hp, 20-hp over the older Panamera’s naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 engine.
A similar engine has also been fixed under the hood of the Panamera 4 Executive which is complimented by a longer wheelbase of 150 mm in order to target buyers who demand more rear room inside the car. Further, the engine range comprises a highly tuned 2.9-litre twin turbocharged V6 trim, which has basically been offered to the base variant and produces 440-hp of power. And last, a 4.0-litre V8 powerful mill is also there beneath the bonnet of Turbo Executive which makes out a massive power of 550-hp.
Longer, taller and wider than the run-of-the unit, the 2017 Panamera is very much a design evolution, unlike the mere upgrades. Especially, the long wheelbase equipped Panamera variants are equipped with a range of new as well as more elegant features over the regular version. Looks like, it shares some design cues with its much in demand sibling Porsche 911 and a few more with the Cayman and the 718 Boxster range.
Moreover, features like a panoramic roof, heated seats with electronic adjustment and an adaptive air suspension system along with variable damper control as part of the automaker’s so-called Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. The standard attributes of the Panamera Turbo Executive and Panamera 4S Executive are even more ambient that are - rear-axle steering and soft-close doors. Later on, the high-end Panamera Turbo Executive receives features such as four-zone climate control and LED main headlights that include Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and ambient lighting.
