Triumph motorcycles, the British two wheeler manufacturing firm has announced to introduce the updated version of its Tiger Explorer in July 2017 in India. The current model of Tiger Explorer is undoubtedly one of the best adventure touring motorcycle in India two wheeler market and is performing well on the rough Indian roads. It got mild upgradations in 2016, but this time the company is going to launch the 2017 version with updated mechanicals and improved electronic aids.
However, the bike will continue to be powered by the same 1,215cc three-cylinder engine, but will now be able to deliver a maximum power output of 139 PS at 9300 rpm and 123 Nm of peak torque at 6200 rpm with the help of a 6-speed transmission unit. The upcoming model is built around a tubular steel trellis frame and comes with WP 46mm USD (up-side down) forks along with WP 46mm USD (up-side down) forks at the front side and a WP monoshock with 193mm of wheel travel coupled at the rear end.
Triumph this time also have shown a keen interest in the safety measures, as the upgraded Tiger Explorer is blessed with a twin 302 mm floating discs along with radially mounted 4-piston monobloc Brembo callipers at the front and a single 282mm disc with Nissin 2-piston sliding calliper at the rear end. Moreover, it also features switchable ABS as standard and comes with a tubeless 120/70 R19 tyre at the front and 170/60 R17 tyre at the rear side. The bike weighs 246 kg, gets a fuel tank capacity of 20 litres and the company has also provided an option of adjustable seat height ranging between 837mm to 857 mm, which might prove to be an issue for short riders.
The company has also embedded advanced technology in the adventure tourer, as we can see an LCD display including a speedometer, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, service indicator, clock, ambient air temperature and coolant temperature in it. Moreover, the rider will also find an additional multi-function DOT matrix LCD display showcasing different riding modes, windscreen adjustment, trip computer, odometer, range-to-empty alert, tyre pressure monitoring system, settings menu and heated accessories status in the motorcycle.
Currently, the most basic variant of the bike dubbed as Explorer XC is available in India, but this time, the company is expected to introduce higher variants of the updated bike including the XR, XRx, XRt, XCr, XCx and XCa in India too. Keeping part the aforementioned features in XR, the new XC, XRx and XCr also feature cornering ABS, traction control, 6-axes inertia measurement unit (IMU), Triumph semi-active suspension, off-road riding mode, cruise control, self-cancelling LED indicators, heated grips, hand guards, additional power socket and engine protector bars.

Keeping the issues for short riders in mind, the company also offers a low saddle height model in the XC named as XC Low, which comes with a saddle height between 785-805mm. The top-of-the-line variants of the bike including XRt and XCa also get additional advanced technology features such as hill hold control system, two extra riding modes (Sport and customisable mode), LED auxiliary fog lights and heated rider and passenger seats.
The new 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer is expected to be available in the country with a price tag of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the basic XC variant and will be seen competing for the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and the BMW R1200 GS motorcycle range in the Indian market.
