Toyota’s popular MPV, the Avanza, is all set to dawn a refreshingly new avatar. The highlight is the bolder front fascia that gives added appeal to the MPV. The Avanza is currently on road in major ASEAN markets.
The cosmetic updates include a range of new design elements running from front to rear. Key new highlights include:
The new design cues make the Avanza appear bolder and wider. The interior though will have minor design tweaks. There are no pictures yet but expect reworked dashboard and seats. An upgraded infotainment system may be on the cards too.
At its heart, the Avanza is pegged to carry the same engine that powers the outgoing model. This includes the 93hp, 1.3-litre, and 105hp, 1.5-liter petrol motors. Both trims come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A 4-speed automatic gearbox may be offered as optional. Toyota would be hoping to keep the Avanza relevant with the new cosmetic updates. Reportedly, the old horse will complete its 15th consecutive year on road since making its Indonesia debut in December 2003.
Over the course of this time, Avanza has had a couple of makeovers too. Toyota has reportedly sold 1.7 million units (till December 2018). The current model belongs to the second generation Avanza launched in 2011. Its on-road rivals include the likes of Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio.
