Bookings for Jaguar XE Diesel Variant Started in India, Launch in May-end

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has started accepting pre-orders for the upcoming diesel variant Jaguar XE sedan with a token amount of INR 1.0 Lakh. The diesel-powered version is expected to be launched on May 31st, 2017 and will be offered in the two trims - Prestige and Portfolio, unlike its petrol powered sister which is available in Pure (base) variant as well.

Jaguar XE is the entry-level offering from the Tata-owned British luxury car manufacturer and was first showcased at Delhi Auto Expo in 2016. Since its first launch, it has been on sale with the petrol version only which is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that develops a maximum power of 200 bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm.

The new diesel variant will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin turbocharged mill that churns out a maximum power of 178 bhp and a peak torque of 430 Nm. This engine also belongs to the carmaker’s newly developed Ingenium engine family.

Rohit Suri, JLR India managing director said, “In the past one year, Jaguar XE has gained immense popularity and success in the Indian market and we are now pleased to offer the choice of diesel to our customers.”

From inside out, the diesel variant of Jaguar XE sedan will be identical to that of the outgoing petrol version in terms of features and equipment. No changes will be made aesthetically and the model will continue to built on the same lightweight aluminium architecture that further helps in achieving the weight distribution of 50:50 along with providing high strength.

In addition to this, the new Jaguar XE diesel will be equipped with JaguarDrive Control that features different modes - Normal, Eco, Dynamic and Rain, Ice or Snow. The entry level sedan will also get a dash mounted InControl Touch 8-inch infotainment system with touch and swipe controls for audio, climate and satellite navigation.

The carmaker is expected to bring the Jaguar XE diesel variant in India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route similar to that of its petrol version and this further hints that diesel version will carry a competitive price tag as well.
We can expect a price tag for the diesel Jaguar XE of around INR 45 Lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
