Brembo Brake India to Setup a New Manufacturing Unit in Chennai

The Indian subsidiary of the Brembo has announced a new manufacturing unit to set up in Chennai. The Italian brand is noted across the globe for its best in class braking units and now with this new production facility, the company is aiming to meet the demands of ABS and CBS which have been a mandatory feature on motorcycles with displacement above 125cc post-April 1, 2018. Whereas, the two-wheelers get the propelling unit below 125cc can be fitted with either ABS or CBS.

The provision for the ongoing models says that they should be furnished with these safety features ahead of April 1, 2019. To comply with these stringent norms, two-wheeler manufacturers have to either construct in-house or source ABS or CBS from the dedicated firm. Consequently, the market will see a hike in demand for the safety features. To meet these demands Brembo brake India has announced the investment of EUR 90 lakhs (Rs 72.14 crore) for ramp up production in 2018.

In India, Brembo is in its tenth year of operations. Besides Brembo, the company has a sub-brand named ByBre, which cumulatively covers 50 percent share in the Indian market. The new Brembo setup in Chennai will be the third in the row followed by Manesar and Chakan units. The new setup will start supplying kits to motorcycle manufacturers in October 2018.
