The American division of the General Motors Group, Chevrolet is gearing up for the launch of its all-new compact sedan, Essentia in India by the first half of 2017. The India-bound model was first displayed at the 13th edition of Delhi Auto Expo, held earlier this year in February. The automaker has already started testing the car on the Indian roads that were captured on camera quite a few times. With the launch of such unit isn’t so far, looks like, the company has speed up the process of testing as one of the test mules has also been spotted testing in the country, but this time at the Mumbai-Pune Express highway. However, it is the same prototype which was surfaced earlier online and covered as much as the last one.
Compared to the Chevrolet Beat, the new Essentia compact sedan looks so much identical to the front, but slightly updated from the side profile. Further, the design of the upcoming sedan is also claimed to be crafted in GM Korea Design Studio with a view to giving it a special treatment as well as to better suit the taste of the Indian buyers. Many of its components will be inspired by its hatchback sibling altogether with several elements from the next-gen Spark that was globally unwrapped last year. Inside the cabin, this new model has been designed with common attachments such as AC controls and unique instrument cluster. It could be also offered with standard features of the company like upholstery system, 2-DIN system and many other.
No such details have been revealed by the company yet about the powertrain, but, the all-new Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan is expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel engine derivatives. While the petrol-powered derivative is going to be powered by a 1.2-litre SMARTECH 4-cylinder unit that churns out 76 Bhp and 106 Nm of peak torque, the diesel-powered unit will be packed with a 1.0-litre SMARTECH 3-cylinder engine that can run the vehicle with a power of 56 Bhp along with a massive torque 142 Nm.
Besides, the transmission duties are expected to be carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox only. We are expecting the car to come up with an automatic transmission as well, though, the company isn’t thinking of bringing it at the same time and might launch later. When it come to price, the Chevrolet Essentia sedan is expected to go around INR 4.5 for the base variant, while the top end will possibly cost INR 7.5 Lakh (Ex-showroom). Upon arrive, it will get a head to head with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and the recently launched Volkswagen Ameo.
