Continental will be Catering ABS to Piaggio Products

Piaggio is a well-known brand all around the world. The company has known for its product quality and ranked number 1 among all other manufacturers. The Piaggio has been designing, engineering, manufacturing and distributing the two-wheelers globally. The company now has taken a step forward to provide more safety features in its two-wheelers.

The Piaggio has made a deal with Continental to provide two-channel and three-channel ABS in its two-wheelers. About Continental, the company has been providing tyres, vehicle electronics, powertrains, chassis, elastomers, and infotainment system for cruisers. The company is also known for the efficient braking system in the vehicles. The Continental will be only one to provide ABS to the Piaggio two-wheelers, as the company has already incorporated these channel ABS system in the Vespa GT300, Vespa 946 and Piaggio X10.

The Continental will be introducing a new one-channel ABS braking system in the forthcoming manufactured two-wheelers. The one-channel ABS will be used in the lower-end of the spectrum. The manufacturer will be going to introduce the all-new one-channel ABS system pretty soon. The ABS system box will be compact and light in weight, as it only weighs 420 grams and will be carrying a total volume of 300cc. The reason to set 300cc volume, so that it won't get stuck with a limited number of two-wheelers and can be used in a wide range. As of now, the Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint is already using the same.

Talking about the working of the one-channel ABS system, basically it incorporates a wheel speed sensor that will be able to keep the track of wheel's speed. And, above all with the help of algorithm the speed sensor will decide when the wheel should lock-up or when not? Under tizzy situation or when the rider out sudden brake, the one-channel ABS system will work over the command of the speed sensors. ABS is the braking system, which resists wheels to lock on the application; rather, they work on the principle of cutting the forward potential of the vehicle by decelerating it a move-stop-move manner. This causes the ride to stop within fraction of standard braking time or duration.

Looking at the safety features, the European government will be making ABS inevitable for all 125cc vehicles by the year 2017 and the Indian government is also working to make it mandatory in India as well. But, it seems that they are not getting any positive response from the two-wheeler manufacturers.
