Diesel Vehicles Over 10 Years Banned in Delhi

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench on Monday has ordered the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Delhi to de-register all diesel vehicles that are more than ten years old. The panel, comprising NGT chairperson justice Swatanter Kumar also directed Delhi’ regional transport office to issue public notice such on this topic and forward the list of registered vehicles to Delhi Traffic Police so it could take some serious steps against them as instructed by NGT.

The Government has issued this new rule immediately due to the serious complaints of non implementation of NGT’s 2015 rule by which they banned all diesel vehicles over 10 years old from the city. In 2014, they had also banned both petrol and diesel vehicles older than 15 years old from breathing in the capital. In spite of the orders along with hard effort of Delhi traffic police, the vehicle continued to pollute the city. However, the Government has provided some relaxation to people with old vehicles (not older than 1990 make) to install electric plug-in kit.

Further added, “Even two-wheelers using pressure horns or those that have removed silencers should not be permitted to ply on Delhi roads.”
