Emission Scandal: 1.9 Lakh Volkswagen Cars Recall From India Starting July

The German Auto giant, Volkswagen has finally announced a vast recall of 1.9 Lakh diesel cars across the country from next month. Volkswagen has already announced a bring-back for its defected diesel cars in the US, Europe, and other Global markets. Volkswagen India said, “the recall is purely voluntary in nature as we didn’t face any charges regarding violating emission norms in India, unlike the US.”

Daniel Carder, the 45-years old West Virginia Engineer who exposed VW emission scandal, proved that VW group was cheating on the US vehicle emission test. After that last year in September, company admitted that it manipulated the emission test by changing the performance of around 11 million diesel cars including its VW, Audi, Skoda, Porsche and Seat brands.

Volkswagen India’s Marketing Head, Kamal Basu said, “Starting from the second half of 2016, Volkswagen will recall 1.90 Lakh cars and continue till ten months.” Further adding more, “Starting from July, communication would be sent to the customers regarding this and also to make them understand that the recall was purely voluntary in nature.”

“When the emission scandal broke out in the US, Volkswagen India also saw a drop in sales but now the trend has reversed”, Basu said.
