Engineering Students Come Up with a Hydrogen Run Bike

Students of RVS School of Engineering and technology have done an outstanding job via the creation of a hydrogen powered bike that runs for 148 kms for 1-litre gas.

R.Balaji, Gowthem Raj, Jerry George and Kalid Ibrahim are the prominent team members who came up with such an innovative idea and designed a machine that confronted the issue of global warming and high-level air pollution. “Today, the world needs eco-friendly alternative fuel to operate vehicles. We have analysed the scope of hydrogen as supplementary fuel in a four-stroke bike,” the team members convey.

While the Assistant Professor and Project guide P. Lakshmanan kept silent during the disclosure, the students addressed about the voyager in detail. The hydrogen costs extremely cheap as compared to other fuels and with the use of this propellant, we can reduce the effect of air pollution to a great extent. At Rs. 30 per litre, it is the low-cost fuel, which India must consider rather than high-class ones.

By the use of hydrogen, emission would be reduced, plus it does not need high maintenance and it is compatible with petrol, diesel and LPG engines. “It is abundantly available. In our experimental set-up, after every 1,000 km of running of engine, water needs to be cleaned and new distilled water has to be taken to a certain level and again it has to be fitted into the vehicle,” says Balaji.

The machine costs barely Rs. 7000 provided no alterations would be required to make it eco-friendly. Moreover, no mixing of fuels is required to be done. The aforementioned project clears the way for additional research in developing any other fresh technique so that the bike would be able to perform well in future without any maintenance, he adds.
