Ferrari's V8 Grabs The Title of 'The International Engine of The Year 2016'

The brand-new 3.9-liters V8 twin turbo engine by the Italian sports car manufacturer, Ferrari has been awarded with the title of 2016 International Engine of the year. Judged by a panel of 63 journalists from 31 countries, the International Engine of the Year 2016 award ceremony was held yesterday in Stuttgart, Germany. The committee was pleased with the power output as well as the new technologies of the engine which additionally help to reduce fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

This happened first time over the years when an engine with more than six-cylinder grabbed the top award. Moreover, the 3.9L V8 also topped in three other categories as well, ‘New Engine’, ‘Performance Engine’ and ‘3.0L-4.0L’. This award winner engine powers Ferrari’s 488 GTB, 488 Spider and, with a little bit different in displacement, the California T.

The heart of 488 GTB, 3.9L V8 twin turbocharger produces the maximum power output of 660hp at 8,000 rpm and the peak torque of 760 Nm at 3,000 rpm, And accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.0 seconds. It has been tuned to achieve a top speed of 330 kmph.

The newest technologies of Ferrari’s 3.9L powertrain include the special seals of the turbochargers to avoid lag, the ion-sensing system to control ignition timing and the multi-spark function which allows spark advance.

Ferrari’s 3.9-liters V8 topped with 331 points whereas, the previous year’s International Engine award champion, BMW’s 1.5L three-cylinder hybrid hold the second place with 278 points and Porsche’s 3.0L six-cylinder turbo took place at third with 267 points.
