Flipkart Founders to introduce a new Electric Vehicle Start-up, Ather

Well, who doesn’t know about the India's leading e-commerce website Flipkart. The website was founded in the year 2007 and started its business by selling out books online. And, now it has become a billion dollar venture as they have over 20 million products across 65+ various categories. Recently, the Flipkart founders, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, are planning to invest $1 million (Rs 6.1 Crores) to provide a start-up to the Ather. Sachin and Binny Bansal, both are the Alumni of the IIT Delhi, are showing up their keen interest in the Chennai-based start-up project of electric scooter, named as "Ather".

Getting into the details, Ather was founded in IIT Chennai. It was started by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain in the year, 2013. Incubated and supported by the Incubation cell at IIT Chennai, the Ather was started to accelerate the adoption of the electric vehicles in the country. According to release, the Ather will carrying forward by a talented team of 15 engineers and designers, it's key focus area is to develop technology to manufacture the best vehicles.

Tarun Mehta said, "Sachin and Binny Bansal’s focus on technology and reinvention aligns with that of the Team Ather. Electric vehicles are still at a very nascent stage in India and our aim is to develop and introduce efficient electric scooters which will benefit the country and help manage its resources more effectively." The Flipkart founders added, Growing Indian start-ups like Ather are using technology successfully to make a mark in this field. We believe the team has the right vision and approach and will be successful in giving India the next generation of impactful, technology-enabled products that will change the way we live."

Talking about other investors, the funding part will be shared by Raju Venkatraman, working as a serial entrepreneur and CEO of Medall Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. also. Projecting lights over the technical specs, the electric scooter, Ather S340, will be powered by a battery which will take half an hour at most to get charged. The top speed achieved by the scooter is 75 KMPH and it weighs 85Kgs only.
