Honda India Recalls Takata Airbags in 1,90,578 Cars

Japanese auto giant Honda will be recalling 1,90,578 units of some previous models of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City, and Jazz in India due to the issue of faulty airbags. The company's wholly-owned Indian arm HCIL announces that the Takata passenger front airbag inflators are going to be voluntarily replaced in the models in question.

“The replacement will be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner. While the campaign for CR-V and Civic will begin immediately, the replacement of inflators for other affected models would begin from September 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly,” says HCIL.

The hazardous Takata airbags are not safe at all in excessive hot and humid conditions, and they have injured more than 100 drivers and liable for 13 deaths, notably in the US. According to the updates, CR-V and Civic models are said to be recalled immediately, while the recall and replacement of the remaining three will begin from September.

Via this recall, 22,483 units of the Accord are going to be affected, which are manufactured between 2003 and 2011. Recall of around 1,37,270 units of the automaker's popular sedan- City produced between 2008 and 2011 will also be done. Coming to the premium hatchback-Jazz, the affected units make a count of 15,706 that were manufactured between 2009 and 2011. The discontinued sedan Civic manufactured between 2007-2011 will cover 13,605 units, while the recalling impact will also be seen on 1,514 units of SUV CR-V produced during 2009-2011.
