Hyundai Genesis GV80 Unwrapped at New York Auto Show

The luxury arm of Hyundai Motors, Genesis has unveiled its first ever SUV prototype, the GV80 at the New York International Auto Show 2017. The all new SUV features a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell powertrain.

Hyundai’s luxury division hasn’t produced any utility vehicle yet and with the Genesis GV80, the carmaker showed the glimpse of what it aimed at. From the exterior design flow, the GV80 apparently targets the same segment which currently includes Jaguar F-pace, as the profile of the both the cars approaches the similar size and design cues.

Inside the cabin, ash wood has been used on the dashboard and floor. The dashboard gets a large 22-inch smart infotainment display which can be separately used by the drive as well as the front passenger. The display further extends to the instrument cluster. Moreover, the system is quite smart with the advanced features such as handwriting recognition and capacitive touch, hence, the touchscreen can only be used with gloves on. On the second row, there are seats for two occupants, with each passenger gets separate infotainment screen.

On the powertrain details, Genesis hasn’t revealed much about the plug-in hydrogen fuel cell setup. But it's likely that the concept boasts of both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technology.
