India Bound Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-In Hybrid Uncovered

The Swedish multinational automobile producing brand, Volvo has acquainted a plug-in hybrid variant of its luxury XC90 T8 SUV. This version renders similar aspects as the XC90 2015 alongside minor cosmetic modifications. Mechanically, it is coupled with a 2.0 liter Drive-E petrol engine and electric motor that will be capable to deliver the best performance for its customers. Its supercharged as well as turbocharged petrol model produces an incredible power of 318 hp and maximum torque of 400 Nm, while an electric motor situated on the rear axles generating appreciable power of 82 hp and transcendent torque of 240 Nm.

The produced power will be sent to its all wheels via an 8 speed automatic transmission system and notably, this vehicle gets a Crankshaft mounted Starter Generator (CISG), which is known as the stronger electric generator. Pairing to 34Kw motor, the CISG act as an electric engine booster that works with a supercharger and a turbocharger to churn out extra torque of 150 Nm. Volvo Car Group’s Senior Vice President Research and Development, Dr Peter Mertens said,  “The Drive-E engines already offer highly competitive performance versus the competition. The T8 takes it further into a leading position.” 

Inside, the Volvo XC90 T8 renders five driving modes, such as Hybrid, Pure Electric, Power, AWD and Save. All of these modes perform different operations on a specific task to render splendid performance for its passengers. Its non hybrid version will be arriving in India next year, while the launch date of this plug-in hybrid variant is yet to be declared.
