Kia Unveiled Picanto Hatch, Could be Launched in India

Kia has globally unveiled its small hatch Picanto which is based on the same platform that also underpins the Hyundai Grand i10. Hyundai Motors’ sister brand, Kia is gearing up to debut in the Indian market with the Picanto which is designed at brand’s European Design Center in Germany.

Since Hyundai is swiftly moving towards the premium segment, its economical brand Kia will cater to the price sensitive market in India. And the new 5-door hatchback Picanto could be the first offering from the South Korean brand.

On Dimensions, the new version of the small hatch measures 15 mm added length compared to the old version and now stands at 24,00 mm, while the wheelbase of 3,595 mm remains unchanged. The exterior details of the car include projector headlamps, front fog lamps, rear parking sensor, vertical taillamps and rear defogger.

Inside the cabin, the Kia Picanto offers a simple design philosophy with a centrally mounted smart infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity and steering mounted controls for voice calls and audio system. Other top-end specs include automatic climate controls, heated front seats and adjustable seating posture with contrasting red and black stitching on seats.
On the mechanical front, no official details have been revealed by the company. Though, Kia can offer this small car with the regular 1.0-litre petrol T-GDI 3-cylinder turbo motor the is fitted under the hood of Cee’d model.

Coming on the India launch, Kia is currently in mid of discussion with few state governments to set up production plant. However, the company has already started developing work of the India-spec versions at the Hyundai’s Hyderabad-based R&D facility.
