KTM RC390 India-Spec Gets Only Slipper Clutch, Omit Aluminium Exhaust

The much awaited KTM RC390 from the Austrian bike maker, KTM, is all geared up for the launch soon in the Indian two-wheeler market. But there is a bad news for all those bike enthusiasts who were eagerly waiting for this updated variant, which was showcased at the 2015 EICMA Motorcycle show ended in Milan last month. Reports are there that the India Spec model of the RC390 will not be getting a side mounted aluminium exhaust system and will be available with just a slipper clutch to save cost.

As per the KTM officials, the new aluminium exhaust muffler was designed to comply with the Euro 4 emission norms. Since the current underbelly exhaust system meets the emission norms of the country and considering the aluminium exhaust setup would be an invitation to hike in prices, therefore, KTM refuses to go for the new exhaust system.

However, with a lack of just one exhaust system, the India-Spec variant will blow out with a host of updated goodies that were added to it including the slipper clutch, which was recently shown on KTM 390 Duke and ride-by-wire technology. Apart from this, the motorcycle gets engineered with adjustable brake and clutch lever. The front disc brakes developed in conjunction with Brembo are larger with 320mm diameter.

Mechanically, the motorcycle is powered by a 375cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that propels out 43.4BHP of power at 9500 RPM and a peak torque of 35NM at 7250 RPM, paired with a six-speed gearbox. It is expected that the 2016 RC390 will carry a premium of Rs. 15000- Rs.20000 over the current model.
