Lexus to Launch LS 500h in India in January 2018

As reported by Autocar India, Toyota’s luxury car division, Lexus is all set to introduce its flagship sedan, the LS in Indian lineup in January 2018. The model that will join its sibling in the Indian product portfolio will be the hybrid LS 500h.

The Lexus LS start its journey with the LS 400 model, was launched in 1989 and since now the brand has rolled out four generations of the same to serve the segment. The latest one is in its fifth generation and recently been displayed at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. Notably, the new LS Sedan features a V6 engine while the subsequent three generation models since launch were employed with a V8 engine.

The India-bound LS that will be a hybrid model will be laden with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine along with two electric motors. The integration will pump out the maximum power of 353bhp that will be transmitted to the rear wheels via an e-CVT transmission. Because the India-spec LS will be provided with rear wheel drive. Though, the variant available in the global market is being offered with both the all-wheel drive and rear wheel drive form.

Design wise, the new-gen Lexus LS 500h wears a completely new design language as compared to the previous models. The new-age LS is more dynamic in terms of design as it features brand’s all-new hourglass-shaped front grille.

Besides, the interior also witnessed various changes in the form of multiple flowing surfaces on the dashboard and multiple screens as the replacement of many physical buttons. Speculations suggest the cabin will be furnished with the high-quality material to offer range-topping luxury. The front seats in the new LS sedan are 28-way adjustable electric seats with heating, cooling and massage functions. While the rear seats will be the best seats in the house as the Lexus plans to offer higher spec rear seat package as standard fitment on the LS 500h. As claimed, the rear seats will also be individual adjustable units with a 48-degree recline for the backrests. While the introduction of active noise suppression technology will make the 2018 Lexus LS 500h quieter than any of the LS offered since now.

In terms of rivalry, the new Lexus LS 500h will go in competition with the likes of BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class as well as the Mercedes-Maybach S500.

Here in India, the LS 500h is expected to land on Indian soil via the import route and will be priced in the range of Rs 1.5 crore to 1.8 crores which will make it a more pricier option than its competitors.
