Mahindra & Mahindra is soon going to introduce a new SUV code named as U301 with its official name. As per the market reports, the date of launch will also be revealed along with some other details. This announcement will be made in Mumbai on July, 30. This will be the first compact SUV among the three new models, which will soon be appearing in the Indian market. Mahindra is planning to launch this vehicle targeting the Indian rural market. The company is aiming at en-cashing the success of Bolero by positioning this new model as mini-Bolero.
Based on the various spy shots of the vehicle, certain features have been already disclosed. This upcoming model will be based on an all new ladder frame chassis just like Mahindra Bolero. It will be lighter in weight but at the same time offers a long wheelbase of more than 2,500 mm. The cabin is likely to be spacious and some high-tech features will be available. The centre console carries an infotainment system with touchscreen interface. Important connectivity options like Bluetooth, USB and AUX-in will also be supported by the system.
The powertrain range includes 4 cylinder petrol and diesel units. Apart from this, a 1.5 litre diesel engine might also be borrowed from the Quanto. This diesel unit pumps out 100 Bhp of power and 240 Nm torque. Energy will be transmitted to the wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox as well as an automated manual transmission. Buzz is that this upcoming compact SUV is going to be one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in India.
