Maruti Suzuki Discontinues Lower Variants Of The 1.6-Litre S-Cross

Launched in August 2015, Maruti S-Cross was the first model to be sold through Nexa dealership followed by Baleno hatch and the latest Ignis Compact crossover. Whereas the latter are getting an overwhelming response from the buyers, the former is somewhere losing its grip on the market thereby the automaker has quietly discontinued some of the variants of the S-Cross powered by a 1.6-litre engine.

Currently, Maruti India offering S-Cross with two different engines - DDiS 320 and DDiS 200 along with a variety of trim levels including Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. While the DDiS 320 is fitted with a 1.6-litre diesel motor, the DDiS 200 comes with a 1.3-litre diesel motor. According to the fresh report, the automaker has discontinued the lower variants of the S-Cross and now the DDiS 320 1.6-litre engine will only be available on the top-end Alpha variant.

The 1.3-litre unit, on the other hand, will continue to be retailed in all four trims ranging from INR  8.78 lakh to INR 10.63 lakh. The alpha unit with 1.6L mill is priced at INR 12.03 lakh (All prices, ex-showroom (Delhi). A Maruti Suzuki spokesperson said, "It is business prudence to keep the number of variants at an optimum level in line with customer's requirements. We started a new segment called premium crossover with S-Cross. Volume-wise, S-Cross continues to do an average of 2,000-2,100 units monthly."
