Maruti Suzuki India Ends FY 2017-18 With New Sales Record Registering 13.4% Growth

Over the decades, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has topped the list of India’s most selling car brand in the budget car category. This year there is more good news for the Japanese Automaker. The company has sold a total of 160,598 units in March 2018. This comprises of 148,582 units in domestic sales and 12,016 units in exports. The last year sales figure for the same time period stood at 139,763 units. The company ended FY 2017-18 with sales figure for FY stands at 1,779,574 units. The growth rate of 13.4 percent from the last year is the highest ever recorded by the Japanese Auto company.

The company also achieved the highest domestic sales figures with 1,653,500 units sold in the last year. The export sales figure for the same period counts up to 126,074 units. The company also registered a domestic market growth rate of 14.5 percent. This is substantial increase and a very big step towards the Company’s medium-term goal of 2 million annual sales by 2020.

A look at the sales figures reveal some very important insights into the Japanese Companies sales techniques and branding decisions. The automaker had pegged big hopes on next-generation cars i.e the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Swift. It did release the accelerator on
Mini-segment entry-level cars like the Alto and the Wagon R . New offerings for the mini-segment mostly included limited edition models of the ca. Accordingly, the segment produced small sales returns of just 3.2 percent compared to FY 2016-17.

The Automaker still rules the road as far as compact and the utility segment is concerned. Star Performers for the segment include the Dzire and the Swift followed closely by the Vitara Brezza and the new S-Cross. However, the company has some ground to cover as far as its premium offering, the Ciaz is concerned. The constant dip in sales continues with March 2018 figures standing at 4321 units.

This is a decrease of 12.1 percent compared to March 2017. Maruti Suzuki India Limited witnessed an 8.6 percent decrease in the Y.O.Y sales figures for FY 2017-18. The rising popularity of the Honda City could be a concern at some time in future. Besides, it must also gear up to lock horns with the soon to be launched Toyota Yaris.
