Maruti Suzuki is a well known name in manufacturing passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Now the company has surprised the Indian market by introducing its own developed diesel engine. Company was using Fiat's Multijet diesel motor in its previous diesel vehicles but now it has brought its own diesel engine which will be available in its light commercial vehicles Maruti Y9T. It is expected that passenger vehicles could also be blessed with the same engine and Celerio would be the first name in the league of its own developed diesel engine passenger vehicles.
The engine will get two cylinders and have the capacity of 800CC. It is expected that the new Celerio Diesel will be unveiled in this financial year. Its petrol variant was unveiled in February 2014 which has 1000CC three-cylinder petrol engine, integrated with 5-speed manual gearbox and 1 automated manual gearbox. The diesel variant is expected to launch with low price tag and may compete with Hyundai Grand i10 diesel and Chevrolet Beat diesel.
