Maserati Recalls 13,000 cars for Fiat Chrysler's Gearshift Issue

Maserati recalled all the 13,000 Fiat Chrysler shifter’s cars which are having the rollaway danger due to the gear shift issue. This matter can mislead the driver and made him think the car is safely parked. Earlier, a 1.1 million units of Chrysler and Jeep were called back for the same trouble.

Regarding this sensitive matter, on Thursday, a case was filed in the United States District Court Central District of California on behalf of three 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees owners in California, Florida and Ohio which claims gearshift design was “dangerously defective.”

Maserati’s 2014 and 2015 models of some renowned machines having Fiat Chrysler shifters issue that matter became more serious after the death of actor Anton Yelchin when his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down backward on to his driveway.

The German supplier ZF, which not only manufactures Fiat Chrysler parts but also develops the eight-speed transmission and shifter for Maserati. The ZF recalled 2014 Ghibli and Quattroporte models to screen the issue. In support, Maserati confirmed that they have found remedies to fix this software fault.

According to a report posted from Maserati on the agency’s website stated that the company did not get any rollaways reports in the model. Still, the firm recalled all the vehicles when National Highway Traffic Safety Administration emphasized to check the issue.

The only solution for this gearshift issue is the changes made in software tuning which will automatically shift transmission into park, in case driver opens door and the transmission is in drive or neutral state. The automaker also confirms the repair for this Fiat Chrysler shifter soon and that too by the fourth quarter of this year.
