Mercedes-AMG E-Class E-50 Coupe to Get New Inline-Six

Mercedes’ performance brand, Mercedes-AMG is all set to add a powerful E-class model, E-50 Coupe to cheer the successful journey of 50 years by AMG unit. Recently, the German auto major announced that the E-50 Coupe 4Matic will be the first model to feature the all-new high-performance M256 inline 6-cylinder petrol beneath its front-end and will be launched in the second half of 2017.

According to a report on Autocar, Mercedes is expected to offer five new E-Class Coupe globally with the choice of both 4 - and 6-cylinder petrol and diesel powertrains. The range-topping model will get power from a 3.0-litre electrically turbocharged that churns out 408 hp. Additionally, it gets an integrated starter generator and electric auxiliary compressor which can boost the performance if required.

Other E-Class model includes the E200 Coupe and the E300 Coupe, the former is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill and produces maximum power of 184 hp, while the later one also features the same configurations but tuned to produce a higher state of output at 244 hp.

On the diesel front, the E200d gets brand’s new turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder under the hood and churn out the peak power of 195 hp. Another one is an E350d fitted with the Mercedes’ familiar turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine which is good for 253 hp.
While the base or entry-level model, E200 Coupe is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, rest all the model of the range are mated to the Mercedes-Benz’s 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission. In terms of drive, the range is offered with either standard rear wheel drive or optional 4Matic 4-wheel drive. However, the E300 is available with rear-wheel drive only.

Coming on the dimensions, it measures 4,827mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,430mm in height. This makes the new E-Class Coupe 141mm longer, 50mm wider and 25mm higher over its year-old stable mate, the C-class Coupe. The wheelbase will also be completely new but unspecified as of now. However, one out of them will be underpinned by the brand’s flexible MRA (Modular Rear-drive Architecture) platform that is also seen on the new two-door.
