Mercedes-Benz has recalled over 1 million cars at the global front. Out of which four lakhs units were found affected by airbag issue in the UK, around 5 lakh units in the US and remaining few lakhs in Germany. The affected units are comprising models such as the A-class, B-class, C-class, E-class, CLA, GLA and GLC. Also, the cars were manufactured during November 2011 to July 2017. In India, there is no such recall announcement for above-mentioned models.
The reason behind the issued recall is the airbag issue that is in association with a faulty steering column component. A clock spring model in the column can break and trigger driver’s side airbag deployment, resulting in harm for the driver. If there is any such issue a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard for indication.
Mercedes claims the models are safe to drive and if having such issue contact to the nearest dealership. The issue will be resolved in an hour without any charges. The automaker is also contacting customers.
Well, no such issues of airbag deployment owing to faulty steering column spring are reported in the UK. While globally around 30 cases have been registered by the brand.
