Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet Limited Edition Revealed at LA Motor Show

The first ever production cabriolet from the ultra-luxury Mercedes-Maybach brand, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet has been globally unveiled at the ongoing Los Angeles Motor Show 2016. The new four-seater open-top S650 Cabriolet is based on the Mercedes-Benz’s open-roof S-Class, though, it will be limited to the just 300 units for production. And each owner will receive a special number key ring and a certificate signed by Dieter Zetsche, Chairman at Mercedes-Benz.

Since the Maybach S650 is built upon a specially tuned AirMatic air suspension system which has also seen on the open-top S-Class, it shares a host of design elements with the S-Class including the predominantly aluminium bodyshell, but also adds several distinguish features. Unlike the Mercedes-Benz S-class, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet features a newly designed front bumper with a restyled lower section lashing in chrome, Swarovski crystal-encrusted headlamps and 20-inch unique forged wheels.

The S650 Cabriolet is adorned by the several Maybach badges, they are embroidered into the front of the seats, embossed onto the back of the headrest and centre console lid. The logo also appears on the grille, each front wings, lower boot lid, and atop the tonneau cover at the rear of the cabin as well. The signature also projects onto the ground via the door lights when the doors are opened.

Moving on the inside, you will get the same as what Mercedes-Maybach is renowned for, the ultra-luxurious comfort and a slew of exclusive elements. The list of fresh features includes the nut brown magnolia trim, number of individual number of the unit i.e. ‘1 of 300’ lettering on the cup holder, and Maybach logos within the steering wheel, seats, rear of the head rests and centre console.
Beneath the front-end, the Maybach S650 Cabriolet receives the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine that powers the Mercedes-AMG S65 Saloon. There are no changes on the output figures, the engine is capable of churning out the massive power of 630 hp at 4,800 rpm while the peak torque of 999 Nm comes out between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via Mercedes-Benz’s 7-Speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet hits 100 kmph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds, the company stated. The vehicle weight has not been revealed yet officially.

Senior officials at Mercedes-Maybach confirms that the new ‘650’ nomenclature will also be adopted by the other V12-powered Maybach models. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is scheduled for the second quarter of the next year for the global sale.
