Mini Reveals 2017 Dakar Rally challenger

Mini has unveiled John Cooper Works Rally racer edition in partnership with X-Raid and motorsport specialist. The 2017 Dakar Rally challenger is based on the latest Countryman that will mark its presence in the next year’s Dakar Rally, scheduled to happen from January 2-14.

The JCW Rally is powered by BMW’s turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine, that massively churns out a maximum power of 345hp and 800Nm of torque. The car is capable of achieving a top speed of 183kph, but tuned to maintain speed at elected terrains.

The countryman has gone through lots of alterations as seen in the pictures. The bonnet has been lowered for the better visibility of the interior. Also, the vent has been added on every side of the doors. The carbon fibre and Kevlar made body has been widened as well. The tubular steel frame chassis is e FIA-approved which is designed for driving on difficult and rough terrains.

Mini claims that the car has been improved on the internal level as well. The top speed and aerodynamics got improved and the increased ground clearance gives the car an aggressive look. The 320mm steel disc brakes – with air- and water-cooled rear calipers help in the braking and handling job smoothly.

Presently, the JCW Rally is going through its final round testing and likely be seen in the upcoming Dakar Rally. However, Mini has no plans to introduce the production model so early.
