New Mitsubishi SUV Teaser Surfaced Online Ahead of Geneva 2017

There is a new Mitsubishi concept described as a sport, coupe-like SUV surfaced online officially. Albeit, it just a teaser image, revealing most of the exterior details like shape and stance, a production ready unit will be showcased at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. No other details were unveiled other than the teaser image hinting the rakish side profile that somewhat resembles the XR-PHEV II concept previewed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The model, previously rumoured to carry a nameplate of the next generation Mitsubishi ASX, is now reported to come under the moniker of Eclipse, however, it isn’t official yet. If all these assumptions come out to be true, it will fill the gap of between Mitsubishi’s AX and Outlander.

As the reports suggest, the upcoming Mitsubishi SUV, which will be underpinned by the shortened version of the Outlander platform, will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol powered derivative will possibly come with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit mated to a continuously variable transmission. The diesel-powered derivative, on the other hand, gets a 2.2-litre unit mated to a manual transmission.

According to Mitsubishi “with its striking design, the sporty, coupe-like SUV will line up alongside the Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Outlander to broaden the brand’s model range and introduce a whole new audience to Mitsubishi Motors, a name long associated with stylish, tough and extremely capable SUVs and 4X4s.”
