Next-gen Jeep Wrangler Undergoes Testing

The next-generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler four-door testing mule has been spotted undergoing testing in southeastern Michigan. There’s lot to say about as one of the production-ready model was also previewed at the 2016 Auto Expo. In the recent times, we saw many wrangler test mules sporting an unconventional design with different mechanical assembly. However, the body is heavily camouflaged and we can see the wheel arches along with the chassis built, which says a lot about its dimensions.

We expect that the new wrangler would get a solid front and rear axles, body-on-frame construction, and four-wheel drive. It has been reported that the automaker has utilized aluminium in order to keep the weight light. It is likely to get a foldable windshield.

Moreover, FCA revealed that a revised product plan for the coming year. It hints that the new Wrangler would be slated with a diesel as well as a hybrid powertrain. Also, the new powertrain won't be available with the launch and it will come later on wards. As of now, no engine spec have been revealed but it makes more sense to configure the model with a 240-hp turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6 engine, which also powers the Ram 1500 pickup. For the time being, Jeep is also working consistently to ensure a eight-speed automatic transmission, which is likely to be sourced from the Chrysler’s ZF. The current Wrangler comes with a five-speed transmission unit, and the eight-speed finds itself unable to fit in because it’s too bulky.
