Next Generation SsangYong Rexton to Compete Against Santa Fe

Some fresh market reports suggest that the Mahindra owned auto giant SsangYong is getting ready to replace the age old Rexton model with the latest version. The model will be officially revealed by next year after making its preview at Paris Motor Show 2016. It is being reported that the brand is aiming at introducing 3 new models in the next three years. Further, it is planning to increase the production to 5 lakh units per annum at the global level.

The upcoming Rexton codenamed as Y400 will bear some enlarged dimensions and will go against cars like Hyundai Santa Fe. Mechanically, it will be fitted with a 2.2 litre diesel along with a 2 litre turbocharged petrol unit. It will also be equipped with some advanced features like lane departure warning and autonomous braking system.

Apart from the above mentioned information, the reports also indicate that SsangYong is gearing up to build a full sized pickup truck that will be based upon the upcoming iteration of Rexton. While the powertrain configuration would be similar, the truck will fight for the market share with the existing players in the segment including Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.
