Renault to Produce Discontinued Scala and Pulse on Made to Order Basis

Recent reports suggest that the French Carmaker Renault has discontinued two of its models Pulse hatchback and the Scala sedan from its Indian portfolio. But, a talk with the Renault India clarified that the models have not been discontinued and will be produced on a made-to-order basis against the request of customers.

As the Renault Scala and the Renault Pulse are the re-badged Nissan models- the Nissan Sunny and the Nissan Micra. So, the person looking for a Renault Scala and the Renault Pulse could contact to their respective Renault dealership to get any of these Renault cars on the made-to-order basis. As there are fewer chances of having either models inventories at most of the Renault outlets, they will tell you the whole procedure and waiting period for opting one.

Renault Scala

The discontinuity speculations of both these models commenced when not a single unit of either car was produced from carmaker in June 2017. According to the SIAM sales report for the past six months, the production of either model was on but at a low scale. The company produced the Pulse barely in two digits units during this period. Whilst, the production of Scala was completely stopped since March this year. The said reason behind bringing both of these models out of production by the auto major was an overall low demand in June, owing to the new Good and Services Tax (GST) that was ready to hit the Indian ground on 1st July 2017.

Renault Pulse

Renault India further said that the volume generating models such as the Kwid and the Duster is on brand’s priority. However, the Pulse and Scala will continue to be a part of Renault India lineup. That is the reason behind listing of both of these models on the website, even though, the price details are not available. The announcement of post-GST prices for either of these re-badged offering is due. The same Incident of holding the production of both cars was also taken place in March 2015 but resumed later.

Renault Scala in action

As mentioned above, the Renault Scala and Pulse are fundamentally the Nissan Sunny and Micra respectively, all of which are manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance manufacturing unit at Oragadam, Chennai. Nissan still disposes about 200 units of each of its models every month and that gives the collaboration enough reason to continue with the products.
