“The Year 2018” that has been a game changer almost in every segment than how could the Indian two-wheeler market that is recognized as one of the largest markets across the globe, can remain unaffected. In the Indian automotive industry, the vehicles which are highly in demand by the masses, the scooters and motorcycles are also the victims.
The scooter segment which was growing from the past consecutive seven years, this year experienced a steep fall of 11 per cent in sales from the 18 per cent last year to 7 per cent this year. These reports are from the current fiscal’s first five months (April-August 2018).
On the other hand, the motorcycle genre that indexed the growth of just 8 per cent in the first five months of the April-August 2017, recorded double-digit growth of 14.6 percent in the same period of 2018.

As per the sales report released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), every segment in Indian biking industry expects the scooter segment witnessed a hike in sales in the first five months of the current financial year. The segment-wise sales growth is indexed in below table.

The most selling scooter in India, Honda Activa itself observed a slight hike of 3% during the said period.
The factor which could consider behind the audience\'s two-wheeler purchasing style is the rapidly increasing cost of per litre petrol. Automatic scooters, however one of the best companion for youth to perform their day-to-day operations though they are not that fuel efficient as compared to commuter motorcycles being offered in the Indian motoring market.
