Shanghai Motor Show: Lexus NX SUV Facelift Showcased

Lexus, a luxury arm of Toyota has displayed the facelift version of NX SUV at the ongoing Shanghai Motor Show 2017. The facelift trims features updates in the form of exterior styling, interior tech and significant mechanical tweaks.

On the exterior, the refreshed front and rear design cues keep the NX up market with the rest of its siblings. The major noteworthy change has been made to the headlights which now gets LC-derived details. Besides, the NX SUV also gets a new wheel design.

The interior changes include a bigger 10.3-inch smart infotainment display replaced the previous 7-inch and an update touchpad controller with added comfort and convenience. The carmaker has also painted most of the switches and controls with the metallic accent.

Other cabin and convenience upgrades are increased power supply on USB charger, a larger wireless smartphone charger and an automatic trunk which can be opened by waving the foot under the rear bumper.

The mechanical tweaks are made in order to improve the ride and handling quality of the car. The facelift version features updated suspension tuning and fitted with the adaptive variable suspension borrowed from the system in the LC 500 sports coupe. Along with it sound deadening has also been increased and a bag of safety kit has now made standard on the facelift NX SUV.

The NX is the entry level SUV in Lexus’ global range and sits below the popular RX SUV. Lexus recently entered the Indian auto segment with the RX 450h, ES 300h which is Camry based hybrid sedan and LX 450d, the full sized SUV, which runs on the same platform that also underpinning the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Under the hood, the NX SUV remains identical to the outgoing model. The non-hybrid NX 200t will continue to be powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill, however, its badge will change to become simply NX 300. On the other hand, the hybrid NX 300h powering by the hybrid set-up - a mix of electric motors and a 2.5-litre petrol engine also remains unchanged.

Takeaki Kato, Lexus NX Chief Engineer said, “For the new NX, we made bold refinements to the design, elevated its performance and added new features to enhance its comfort and convenience.”

He added, “the new NX still possesses the same elements that have made it popular in the past—a sharp design, everyday convenience and driving pleasure that will satisfy all enthusiasts—but the vehicle as a whole has evolved dramatically, as you’re bound to see and feel when you first experience it.”
