Skoda Reveals It's One-off Roadster: The Sunroq

The week so far has witnessed a host of one-offs from car manufacturers across the globe. The list includes the likes of Honda, Nissan, Audi, and Volkswagen. While Nissan introduced the open-top variant of Leaf to celebrate 1,00,000 Leaf sales in Japan, other Automakers like Skoda has unveiled their concept offerings in the crossover-convertible segment.

The Sunroq is a true roadster that inherits its looks and feels from the Skoda Karoq. The Sunroq was designed by a group of 23 students at the Skoda’s Mladá Boleslav trade school. However, an on-road debut is not a likelihood given the fact that, Volkswagen will make a T-Roc convertible in 2020.

At the heart, the Sunroq carries the all-new 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine designed by the VW group. The Sunroq can accelerate from naught to 100 kph in an impressive 8.4 sec. At full throttle, the roadster touches 204 kph.

Being a true roadster in looks and specs, the Sunroq boasts of a permanent open-top. The students had to remove the B and C pillars, and the tailgate made room for the elevated central brake light. The red and white leather upholstery syncs perfectly with the overall red theme as well as the contrasting blue-red wheels are in perfect contrast to the red body. The highlight feature, however, is the puddle door lights and the glowing Skoda Badge at the front.
