Tata Xenon Facelift Spied Testing on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

It is no secret that Tata Motors is working on an updated version of its pickup truck Xenon which is slated to be launched by this financial year in India followed by Australia, Thailand and South Africa. One of the test mules has also been spied earlier on the roads equipped with an automatic transmission gearbox and claims to looks like a facelift version of the Xenon. And now, it’s again caught on camera, doing the testing rounds on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Thanks to Performance factory that has shared the pictures on the internet, featuring no plastic cover over the body .

First introduced in the market in 2009 as a replacement for Tatamobile and Tata TL 4WD pickups, Xenon is currently enjoying a 140 hp 2.2-litre diesel engine beneath its hood which is mated with a manual transmission. Under this facelift treatment, it might get offered with a new Varicor 400 engine that is currently underpinning the Tata Safari Storme and also expected to come up with soon to be launched Hexa crossover.

With this new powerhouse, it will be capable enough of making run the unit with a maximum power of 156 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Further, it is also to be noted that the Xenon facelift will be offered in a manual transmission in the form of the 6-speed gearbox as a standard attachment, while an automatic unit may be exclusive to global-spec units.

Going by the spied shots, it can be clearly seen that it has the single-cab variant, which gets a slightly redesigned face including a new front bumper, redesigned fog lamp enclosures and body-painted single slat grille with chrome garnish. The only change at the rear-end is a revamped cluster for the taillamps. Earlier in August, a report hinted that the revisions are coming to the Xenon would also comprise a new hydroformed chassis, and it is likely that the prototype here is based off it.

Tata is also expected to bring its all-new premium crossover, showcased earlier at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Hexa, in January 2017. It was likely to launch in the festive season, but schedule to next year for some unknown reason.
