Tesla Unwraps All-New Roadster, Claimed As Quickest Accelerating Car Globally

Alongside the truck’s world debut, Tesla CEO Elon Musk pulls the covers off from the all-new Roadster model. As claimed by Musk himself, the open-top model of the Roadster could complete the sprint of 0-60mph in just 1.9 sec.

While the next generation model of the Tesla’s first production car can easily accelerate from the standstill position to 100 mph in 4.2sec and a quarter-mile sprint completion takes place in 8.9 sec.

"This will the first time that any production car has broken nine seconds in the quarter mile," he said.

Other than this, officials also claimed that with a removable lid and wraparound rear section, the Roadster which resembles to the Mazda MX-5 RF, will be able to touch the top speed of more than 250mph.

Musk revealed that the car is packed with the 200kWh battery pack which enables it covers a range of 620-mile range in a single charge, which in itself is a record for production electric vehicles.

"The point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars,” continued Musk. “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”

Bookings for the Tesla Roadster which is priced at an introductory price sticker of $200,000 (£151,020 at today’s exchange rate), has commenced at the token amount of $50,000. It is expected to hit the global market in 2020.
