Toyota Innova and Fortuner to be Machined with India Made Diesel Mills

Toyota Kirloshkar Motor (TKM) is aiming to raise the localization rate of its manufactures up to 80% in order to confer all required and demanding features at the reasonable price for the Indian customers. Now, the company is all set to initiate the production of oil burner engines and if the business reports are to be believed, then test production of the mills will be commenced shortly at Toyota's new plant near Jigani, Bangalore, while final manufacturing will be started by early next year.

Notably, the decision for developing powertrains has mainly been taken for the new Innova and Fortuner, which will be set up next year in our country. This confirmation has been given by the deputy managing director of TKM, T S Jaishankar. Currently, the engines for both of these models are machined from their plant placed in Japan. According to the market reports, the brand has invested total INR 800 Crore of big amount in building its latest engine plant, which will have a capacity to give birth of total 100,000 units per year.

Hence, it will make the manufacturer capable to enhance localization of its Fortuner as well as Innova up to 80%. The former one is expected to be powered by a new 'GD' diesel mill range, such as a 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre four cylinder units with manual and automatic transmissions. However, the next one is likely to get power from the same 2.5 litre 2KD FTV mill as its existing version.

The new generation Toyota Fortuner will obstruct the likes of the new Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Chevrolet Captiva. On the other hand, the next generation Innova will compete the Honda Mobilio, Renault Lodgy and Tata Aria.
