TVS Halts The Sale of Phoenix 125 Commuter in India

TVS Motors has stopped the sale of Phoenix 125, a motorcycle meant for daily commute, in the Indian market. In the company’s product lineup, it was the sole product that caters audience falls in this 125cc commuter segment. But now, after its elimination from the Indian product portfolio, it will be interesting to see, what would manufacturer’s strategy to hold on masses seeking for motorcycle in commuter genre.

For the first time in history, the TVS Phoenix had made its debut in 2012. And, the automaker’s expectations from this new entrant were so high. It has initially targeted the sale of 20,000 units monthly, in competition with the rivals in segment such as the Honda CB Shine and the Hero Glamour.

Though, the contest was that tough, that the brand never managed to take sales figures up. While, the last 12 months sales records were really matter of concern for the company. That’s why, after getting a big drop of only 94 units sales in March 2017, the company decided to withdraw the Phoenix from the Indian product list. Other than this, the shift in emission norms from BS-III to BS-IV, could also be a considered reason for its discontinuity from Indian market.

Whereas, in the global market, the Phoenix is doing really well and are in good demand there. Certainly the production of the Phoenix will still be continued for the export markets. However, there is no words that Indian lineup will get any replacement of the bike in question in the coming times.
