Upcoming Maruti Swift and Dzire Likely to Carry 1.5L Diesel Engine

Recently, a report has emerged from Economic Times informing us about the next generation Maruti Swift and Dzire, which are anticipated to be introduced by the second half of 2018. 'YSD' is the codename given to both the models. To meet the demand of Indian buyers, Maruti will be launching these vehicles with a good fuel efficiency and new engines. As per the report, these cars will be powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine codenamed as E15A. Furthermore, Suzuki's self developed Boosterjet 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, that is going to be fitted for the first time in upcoming Baleno will be integrated in the new Swift.

Currently, the Dzire Compact Sedan and Swift hatchback are available in both diesel and petrol version, and if market report is to be believed, the next generation models will be carrying the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. These hybrid variants will be packed with a 1.3 liter diesel engine that does duty on Fiat models. Apart from this, YSD will be light in weight as compared to current models and will also feature updated safety equipments.

The company is hoping that it will sell at least 4.5 Lakh units/year of both Swift and Dzire models. If the combined monthly sale of Swift and Dzire is to be counted, than it reaches 37,500 units. Company's average monthly sale has crossed the figure of 19,936 units for the compact sedan and 17,559 units for the hatchback.
