Upcoming Skoda SUV Name Confirmed as Kodiaq, India launch by Late 2017

Volkswagen-owned Czech automaker, Skoda has confirmed the name of its upcoming SUV. The new SUV which is expected to be launched in the global market by early 2017, will be known as Skoda Kodiaq. However, it will be unveiled by the later half of this year at the Paris Motor Show.

According to Skoda, the name has been extracted from the Kodiak bear that lives on an island near Alaska, and also the spelling has been derived from the native language used in the region. Meanwhile, the carmaker has also released some teaser images that reveal the all aspects of the car, showcasing its build quality and design outline.

Skoda has also confirmed that the Kodiaq will measure up to 4.70 metres in length. It will be line up in between the Yeti model with the competitive pricing with the siblings. It will be based on VW’s MQB platform, which forms the basis for the VW Tiguan too. The Tiguan model scheduled to be launched in India this year itself. Interestingly, Both the Tiguan and the Kodiaq models share much similarity in terms of components and features.

The Name of the New Skoda SUV

The reports suggest that the Kodiaq SUV is expected to be powered by two engine options: 4-cylinder TSI and TDI engines, offered with manual and DSG gear box pairing. However the base variant is likely to get front-wheel drive, while the top variant will come up with all-wheel drive system. In India, it will be seen competing with rivals such as VW Tiguan and Hyundai Santa Fe. It is expected to be priced in between INR 28 Lakhs – INR 36 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).
