Volkswagen India today rolled out the first 'Made in India' Ameo compact sedan from its local Chakan Facility. The automaker is manufacturing the sedan after investing around 720 crores in the facility. The event was held in the presence of Andreas Lauermann - President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited. The Ameo is one of the anticipated cars for the automaker. It made its global debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The sub 4-metre compact sedan is believed to be designed for Indian consumers. The company is promoting the car on multiple platforms.
Meanwhile during the roll out event, Lauermann commented, "This day marks an important event in the journey of Volkswagen in India. The Ameo symbolises yet another first as it has been specially created for Indian customers." He also announced that the company has added a third shift in order to fulfill the demands at earliest. The company has received an overwhelming response from the Indian buyers till now.
Talking about the exterior part, the Ameo looks almost similar to the Polo as it shares identical grille design, headlights and bumpers. The only difference lies within the rear section of the car where the C-pillar is followed by a extended boot section. Moreover, the interior gets a black and beige dashboard and door panels. The centre console gets silver finish, which is surrounded by the infotainment system and AC vents. The seats come stitched with premium fabric upholstery while the steering wheel gets leather-coating.
Under the hood, the compact sedan offers two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol mill and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both the variants comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol mill is the similar motor that is used in the hatchback while the diesel mill is currently used by Skoda Rapid and Vento.
The company has also launched a mobile application for VW Ameo, facilitating the consumers to book the car and know more about it before making any final decision. Notedly, Pre-bookings of the car had already started earlier this month at a nominal cost of Rs 25,000. Post launch, the car is likely to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it will be seen competing against the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki DZire, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire.
