Volkswagen Officially Teases Next-Gen Polo, Expected Global Debut at 2017 Frankfurt Show

The German carmaker has officially released a teaser video featuring its upcoming next-gen Polo hatchback in action. The model in the 26 seconds clip, however, is completely camouflaged and hardly revealing any details about the car. Though the carmaker is kind enough to reveal a few things about the car.

Leveraging the teaser video, the new Polo will be lighter in weight despite being bigger in size, thanks to the Volkswagen’s smallest version of the MQB platform. The flexible one that helps the Polo in reducing the kerb weight of around 70 kg, which will ultimately result in improved fuel mileage without compromising the strength of the vehicle.

The front is unmistakably Volkswagen’s iconic face with several subtle changes. The grille meets headlamps at the both end while boasting the company badge at the center. The headlamps consist triple level section. While the outer-most section features low beam headlights, inner-most gets the high beam. Right next to it is the third composition which houses front indicator and parking lights. LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) might be missed on the new Polo as what we saw here are halogen DRLs.

On the design, the new Polo boasts of no significant changes and sounds more of a facelift update. In terms of power front, the 2018 Volkswagen Polo is likely to be offered with a range of petrol and diesel powertrains, mated to DSG automatic gearbox or manual transmission.

Volkswagen is expected to globally showcase its new-gen Polo at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show which will be kicked off on September 14, 2017, in Germany. However, the production of the car is likely to be commenced in June this year, before it heads to the multiple international markets for sale.

Here, in India, we can expect the new Polo in the second quarter of 2018. As the carmaker will first launch the new Polo in the European market, followed by the American and Asian markets.

Back to the sneak video, the Polo has been on the global sale since 1975 and during this journey of more than 40 years, the carmaker has sold near of 14 million units of the premium class hatchback. After completing the five generations long run, Volkswagen has finally come out for the first time with a 27 seconds teaser video, featuring the sixth-generation Polo.
