Volkswagen Polo GT Sport Limited Edition Launched in India

Volkswagen has launched its popular hatchback in performance avatar - Volkswagen Polo GT Sport. This is a limited edition run and available in both versions of Polo GT, i.e., TSI and TDI. The new Sport Edition costs INR 20,000 more than its regular GTs ex-showroom price.

The especial run boasts of a number of tweaks which can be noticed through inside out of the car, while mechanically, it remains unaltered. The TSI version continues to get power from the 1.2-litre motor while TDI variant features a 1.5-litre motor under its hood.

With the launch of Sport Edition of Polo, Volkswagen has steeped in the performance-oriented Indian auto segment which already consists one of the best selling Premium hatch, Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, newly launched Ford Figo S and Fiat Abarth Punto. It seems the carmakers are showing their interest in the small Indian performance-based auto segment. Good for the Indian enthusiasts seeking go-fast four-wheel drive, now they get several options and those too under 10 Lakh.

The GT badge has always instilled the pride of owing the best, and the Polo GT Sport edition takes it a notch higher further increasing the sport quotient of the vehicle. With this offering, we are providing our consumers with an option to choose a sportier variant of the most loved hatchback the Polo GT."

Exterior Updates -
Basically, it is a sports variant of already sport hot-hatch with a number of cosmetic tweaks through inside out along with the bigger wheels. With the new GT Sport versions, Volkswagen is all set to make the competition tougher for its rivals in the performance segment.

Updates to the GT Sport are as follow - It gets bigger 16-inch ‘Burnished’ alloy wheels which are 2-inch larger than the outgoing Polo hatchback. It boasts of new side sticker with ‘GT Sport’ label, along with the ‘GT TSI’ badge affix on the C-pillar.
Just like its elder sibling, it also features ‘GT’ moniker mounted on the front grille. The sports model comes with contrasting glossy blacked out roof. The wing mirrors have also been painted in a black finish with turn indicator mounted on them. As the new GT Sport carries the racing spirit, it is also equipped with a spoiler at the rear.

Interior Changes -

Step inside, and you will see a whole black leather upholstery with the embossed ‘GT Sport’ tag. Since the GT version is already the range-topping offering in the Polo line-up, it gets all the top features and equipment on the Sport Edition as well.

Mechanical Details -

As we’ve mentioned above, under-hood details of the new Polo GT Sport get no alteration and continues to generate power from the existing lineup that is featured on the outgoing GTs. It is a 1.2-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol TSI engine that generates maximum power of 105 PS along with the peak torque of 175Nm. For the TSI trim, carmaker claims a fuel economy of 16.47 kmpl.


Whereas the 1.5-litre TDI diesel motor generates 110 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The TDI setup returns a claimed fuel mileage of 19.91 kmpl.

On the transmission side, the TSI version is mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox while TDI trim is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, no option for the automatic transmission is available.
