Volkswagen To Begin Ameo Deliveries in India by July

Volkswagen India is ready to deliver its much anticipated Ameo compact sedan in the Indian market by July this year. The deliveries will begin soon after the official price announced, which is scheduled to take place in June. Volkswagen ameo will be the automaker's first sub-4 metre compact sedan. It made its global debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and it is being manufactured locally at the VW chakan plant in Pune.

Talking about the exterior counterpart, the front fascia resembles to the Polo model, while the major difference lies within the boot section and the rear. The interiors too are quite similar to the Polo hatchback. It is well equipped with safety amenities like ABS, airbags, ABS braking plus EBD.

Mechanically, Ameo will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that churns out a power output of 75 PS and 110Nm of peak torque. The diesel unit will handle a 1.5-litre mill that delivers 90PS of maximum power followed by 230N of peak torque. Both the engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox while a DSG variant might be introduced later.

In the Indian market, VW Ameo will be seen competing with prominent rivals like Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Figo Aspire, and Tata Zest in the sub-4 metre compact sedan segment. The Ameo is likely to be priced in between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom prices).
