Details on: Volkswagen Polo in India

Mr Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, was quoted as saying, “With our new compact sedan, we will focus intensively on the specific requirements of our Indian customers.” This probably implies that we can expect the car to be equipped with fuel efficient engine. It can also be expected to offer some modern amenities for convenience. Nowadays, features like touchscreen infotainment and multi-functional steering wheel have become a common fitment in most of the cars irrespective of the body type and price tag.

As per the market reports, the mechanical specs of this compact sedan codenamed as Polo Stuffe might consist of a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder petrol motor that could be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Another option could be an all new 1.5 litre, 4-cylinder TDI motor again with a manual gearbox. However, an automatic transmission unit can also be expected in the model. Apart from this, it will also borrow its platform and certain design cues from the Polo hatch.
